Five persons lost their lives, while nine others sustained injuries after a bus rammed into a truck in Abaji, along Abuja- Lokoja road.
A witness said the accident happened at about 4:00a.m. after a bridge in Abaji, adding that the accident involved three vehicles – a J5 bus with registration number AKR 982 YZ, a Sino truck with registration number GRK 10 XA and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number DKA 195 YN.
He explained that the J5 bus also crashed into the wreckage.
“The bus driver thought the truck was moving and before he could realize that it was broken down, he had crashed into its back, leaving five persons dead on the spot,” he said.
Our reporter who visited the scene saw the police controlling traffic as the truck was still on the road, while some passengers who survived in the J5 bus were seen removing their belongings.
When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC), Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident.
He said 23 people were involved in the accident, and that five male adults lost their lives and nine male adults sustained injuries.
He said the corpses have been deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue, while the injured passengers were also at the same hospital receiving treatment.
He attributed the crash to wrong parking and speed limit violation.
