Abuja set to host waste management summit.

Experts in the waste to wealth management sector will tomorrow, Tuesday, October 24, hold a summit in Abuja to chart the way forward for an efficient management of waste generation and recycling for wealth creation.

In a statement made available to the media by Mezzagers Environmental Services Limited, the organizers of the summit, the  Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, Mr. Lanre Oresanya and other distinguished personalities are expected to grace the occasion.

The statement added that the absence of requisite infrastructure, investment and process management in waste disposal management could be overwhelming as it posed great danger to Nigeria’s growing population.

It said the generation and management of waste remained an important factor in building sustainable and livable cities and towns across the country.

It said that efficient waste management impacts on public health, the economy and social wellbeing of the people, adding that Nigeria’s waste generation is 25 million per ton per year out of which urban waste per day is 40,959 tons.

Urban waste is expected to grow by 147 % (101,307) tons per day in 2025, it said.
